i think the #1 driver of suicide is probably alienation. alienation from your work, from your fellow people, from basically everything. i think excess screentime and social media is one of the drivers of it, lack of meaningful face-to-face relationships, and that goes hand in hand with living in a world that i dont think people really believe in anymore, no one buys the myth that you can just go to school graduate go to work buy a house with a white picket fence get married and be happy. a lot of peolpe probably feel their situation is hopeless but even those that dont, that are doing fine, can be alienated from their lived experience if they find it bullshit. also mental illness can defy even good situations and bring peolpe down.
