The question is which version do you use and was it any reason to use this file exactly?

Question for those who use the full or any custom version instead of combat.

How to check that:
Follow your war2 folder, right click "Warcraft II BNE.exe" and select properties. Then click Version. Your file version will be right there:


You will see mostly 1 of 2 options: 2.0.2.0 or 2.0.2.1
Version depends on the way to patch that:
Firstly you install Warcraft II from your CD, and then your patch it:
Option 1:
You join battle.bet, there you have no option to select gateway, only official battle.net:

Of course, you should have working cd-key. Then Battle.net forces your update:

Then you agree, bnet updates your version and forces game restart:

Now you have working 2.0.2.0 version you can use to play on any server include server.war2.ru
Option 2:
You run \UPDATES\WAR2PATC.EXE file from your CD and it forces your update:

Now you have working 2.0.2.1 version you can use to play on any server include server.war2.ru

So, what's the difference between 2.0.2.0 and 2.0.2.1?
Gameplay is almost the same for these 2 versions, except:
1. While being attacked, your army is blinking RED on the minimap for 2.0.2.0, and BLUE for 2.0.2.1.

2. 2.0.2.0 is compatible with several war2 utilities, like: war2insight, warlatency, warvideo, war2ppatcher, war2observe.
2.0.2.1 - probably not:


3. there's different reaction for maphack for 2.0.2.0 and 2.0.2.1:
I don't like to discuss cheating, but briefly:
Cheater can undo his maphack back on 2.0.2.1 after seing his opponents and can't do that on 2.0.2.0

And now the discussed problem:
As a part of cheatfighting, here's a plan to deny or limit 2.0.2.1 version on our server!
Does anybody know why 2.0.2.1 is better than 2.0.2.0 and we should not do it?
Maybe some ideas?
Here's about 50% of 2.0.2.1 clients now! Maybe you use it anywhere else server.war2.ru?

Yes, tested it for english versions 2.0.2.0 and 2.0.2.1.
Let me test that for german and spanish versions also...

Let me clarify you some point if you want please Il.

You need a cd key right, but any cd keys you find on google gonna work.

So it mean even if the cd key is old and disable...

The cd key gonna work for installation but dint for the official war2bne server.

But thats not really a probleme since they want to play on war2ru server and we dont need  cd key.

So cd key is not really a big fact right here, we can find 10k cd key on google.

Second point is about the different version.

Its gonna work for any language version, german, polish, italian, anything.

I already try on english and french and thats both the same.

Client are all the same, patch are all the same, the only difference is in the traduction of the game.

I repeat, by closing this client, we stop alot of probleme, Game crashing, latency, lag, hacking.

Peoples deserve to know everyone play with the same software, everyone deserve too know they play against a legit players.

I dont want to ask my mind everyday too think about if my ennemies hacks or not. Thats some kind of torture, i pretty hate that, i dont feel to play in that mind.

No reason to keep this clients, everything gonna be better after, everyone gonna know they have the same same chance and there really no cheat.

I was sure you need key to join official bnet server. I checked that - it let's to update even with the banned key.

I also checked german vesrion: it updates to 2.0.2.1 from both CD update and from official battle.net.
And 2.0.2.1 are the same for english and german.
Need to check if it's compatible with 2.0.2.0 replacing 2.0.2.1 for german, but looks like yes.

I also updated spanish version via battle.net, (using english CD because spanish version doesn't have legit CD) and got the same 2.0.2.1 version as for english and german.

So, the only ensglish version being updated to 2.0.2.0, others to 2.0.2.1

Maybe it will be hard the first week, but people love this game and not gonna leave for this reason.

That would be only 1-st step against hack, because they can still use it while not being catched, or puttying their gold mines on minimap before posting, but it could be a good 1-st step on this way.

You can get other's client version. Use:
/finger username

You will see lots info including for example: "Client: Warcraft II    Ver: 2.0.2.0   Country: CAN"
