have you seen all the amazing data of how many were lifted out of poverty, illiteracy, etc so successfully and quickly in the USSR, china, and so on?  it's really quite magnificent.  the benevolent market has never restored most of eastern europe to the stability and health of its soviet days, and a country like india, that did not achieve socialism, is now far behind its peer the Peoples Republic of china
