An Israeli diplomat in Berlin said outright to an Israeli journalist that it is in the interest of Israel to maintain Holocaust guilt and that Israel therefore isn’t seeking full normalisation of relations with Germany.
The comment was made by Adi Farjon, an Embassy spokesperson, in what she believed to be a closed briefing session with journalists at the Israeli embassy.
After she made the statement some journalists expressed concern one saying that “the spokeswoman clearly said that it was an Israeli interest to maintain German guilt feelings. She even said that without them, we’d be just another country as far as they’re concerned”.
