Do we have war2insight 's source code?
« on: March 15, 2020, 03:13:30 PM »
Right now we need players to be in the game to be able to watch games and that may induce lag and all kind of bad things.

I was thinking if instead of recording to a file we added a functionality to insight so that it can stream the data of the game to a server or read from such a stream on the fly we could have a real spectator mode that would allow any number of players to just connect to a given game at any moment and start recieving that stream and play it on their own without having to be in the game at all.

For that though we would need the source code to add that functionality to insight.
then once we have the stream send/read part done making a platform site where people can watch ongoing or past games would be quite easy imo.

So yeah the question is do we have that somewhere available or is it a private repository/project?

If the creator is still around and don't mind sharing we could setup a Github repository that we can fork/work on :-).

Well that is not for watching non willing players without them knowing about it as they would have to start insight in streaming mode themselves for the game to be streamed...
If you do not stream your game people wont be able to watch it. No one is forcing anyone to do anything here...

It is more for situations like if players want people to be able to watch their games as they play it they can launch insight and start streaming to others.

Just like on Voobly and other modern gaming platforms where some players allow others to watch their games as they play and anyone can start watching a game being played live that way.

That could also be useful for tournaments we could have tourneys being played on pure 1v1 maps like one way in one way out and having players be able to spectate these games without adding any lag for the players in the real games.

Of course if players do not want to stream their own games they do not have to run insight but for new players that join the server its a cool and very easy way to get into it.

Hi guys,

I'd like to add to this because I think it's an important topic, and could do with emphasising.

Also, with the code, we could kill once and for all name spoofers on the server. Not sure how many there are now, but they used to be rampant back in the day. The program could verify each players name against their login once the game started, and make a note/ alert if found to be different.

This really is the most important of anti-hacks, as it renders all other checks pointless if they are running against a spoofer.

Regards all,

Additional;

The program needs work anyway, as there are still occasionally premature breaks as it cannot handle all the info comming in/ out.

Regards again
