Time for new comp.. Suggestions please
« on: November 17, 2017, 03:33:43 PM »
Alright I have been wanting to do this for awhile now.. I want to buy a gaming PC but want to make sure war2 will be alright to play on it. I don't want a super huge monitor but if its able to adjust blackbars for war2 then I guess it would be ok. Price is not really a issue just want a really nice gaming comp... Throw me some links and personal expierences please.

I would like it to work for any game, but if no war2 no good. My last two computers since like 2008 have completely sucked for war2.

I'm honestly confused as to how a modern computer could suck for war2... it needs about 1% of the processing power of an average phone... how does a computer suck for it?

think its just a matter of
1) not letting windows fuck w2 up
2) not letting modern screens stretch w2 window and fuck up aspect ratio

So 1 is the OS ... 2 is the monitor ...

As far as OS are concerned:

1/ Windows:

In my case windows 8.1 with classic shell work like a charm I don't know about 10 I don't  usually install adwares on purpose on my computers  ^-^.
I think I tried 7 once but I dont remember running any utilities, with 8.1 I run war2, observer and insight all at once with a batch file and it works pretty good out of the box.
(I also tried pudbrowser and map editor for science and it  also works fine)

2/ Linux:

I dont know how linux handles wine nowadays
I usually dont use linux for playing myself but it might be worth looking for that too.
I heard it is pretty stable one good thing about it is you get to try that for free and if it does not work well you haven't lost much.
As far as linux distros are concerned Id go for Mint or Manjaro if its a first time linux thing they are userfriendly and quite popular.
Also for graphic cards if you are going to run on linux you will want to get a Nvidia with the proprietary driver they are better supported.

Also I cant tell about the various utilities obviously if anyone runs linux they might have more insight  than me no puns intended ;)

3/ M.....Nope just kidding there is no 3 (:

On the subject of 3... well sort of 3 lol

I just went and picked up some stuff I had in storage yesterday. Amoungst it was 5 desktop PCs and a laptop. IIRC a few of them have linux on them, and it seems to be that VMs would be perfect for WC2... given that it uses 100% of a CPU - well it doesn't actually use it, which is the point. I'd be surprised if you couldnt get a multiple WC2s running on the same system with no issues. Certainly no aspect ratio problems either, you could just window them.

Ima try it out when I get this big pile of stuff sorted out a bit.... but right now I can barely move.

You mean including the monitor?... I see.

Well the VM thing SHOULD be able to run it windowed... well not actually WC2 windowed, but the whole virtual computer windowed, which would add up to the same thing.

Needs testing, but I think it will work.

I sometimes run war2 on Vmware on my mac, its fine for watching games but not as responsive if you're looking for competitive play.
Xp and win 7 seem the best for running war2!  Burnt you should do a Dual boot hackintosh!! It's nice not having to worry about
viruses on the Macintosh side
