LOL, the modem death tone. I was playing a ladder match once for top ten and heard the modem redial noise kick in followed by, "Chuckie? are you on the phone? (Yeah, thats what my family used to call me when I was younger lol). My reply: Ummm, not anymore .... Those were great times, all the big names playing all day long. Everyone smurfing are buddies then name dropping at the end to rub it in. So cool to see a lot of players either still playing War2 or at least coming back for another go.I walked away from the game after several bad experiences with map hackers when bnet first came out.
I tried an old strat in a tournament here last month and found out quickly that rushing with cats and/or archers to counter choke points is in full effect. No longer are players using cookie cutter build orders with an inside cat or c-tower to buy them time. It seems like the game has transformed into more of a adapt to the situation at hand , constant pressure in hopes of slowing them down until end game. Micro management, unit control, pulling wounded units out of a battle, etc, also seem to be more common. I seen a few old skoolers still in more recent youtube vids like Warangel and YWFN. Brought back some bad memories of playing NWTR and HSC against them back in the day. It's hard to believe how much time has passed since those all nighters.
I've been playing a bit on my own, trying out a few of the new maps like CHOP, 3on3 arena, Gold Rush, and Cramped. Enjoy some of the new ones quite a bit. This fall I hope to have more time to play and hope to get some 2on2 action going again. Nice hearing from ya again. L8rz
