Server & Forum Rules

Let's provide the Rules based on real democracy ideas!
According to this poll.

These are the Rules applied to both Forum and Server.

Being the forum member, you can vote for any set of options you consider fair.
You can also revote any time you change your opinion.
The forum admins only can see your personal vote.

The Server & Forum Rules are being depend on the majority votes (weak side if vote number is equal).
Each point applies active when the majoity accept that.
Example:
- impersonating should cause muting - 2 voices
- impersonating should cause nothing - 2 voices
That means "impersonating should cause nothing", because majority didn't accept muting.

I don't include some obvious technical options, like server attacking or forum spambots as unambiguously harmful for the software and the community.

i personally dont think its as easy as just "checking" a box. i think each individual situation needs to be handled as an individual situation.

i would like to see a server and forum where we very rarely have to ban or punish. only when absolutely necessary... and i think for any long-term punishments admins (or maybe even some people in the community from time to time) need to get together and discuss what they think is appropriate and agree on it

thats just my 2 cents.

tk, i agree, we should not use our banhammer unless we have no another choice.
I also always said that each situation should be handled individually.
My own moderation activity for last 8 months have been 1 permban and 1 7-days ban, then i paused.

But do you agree we have to publish some kind of Rules and follow it generally to avoid the admin power abuse?

yep, it makes much more sense to mute (instead of banning) people for shittalking. Or kicking them off the main server channel. So its up to you. I'd say it should cause nothing, but i wont QQ if you prefer the moderated environment.

if something should not be punished, does that mean that kind of trash should not be deleted?

I mean spam, offtopic garbage, porno, racism, etc?
I don't think deleting messages is good: it breaks the freedom of speech. At the same time i don't think forum should go to a big trash of spam.

Deleting without punishment may lead to players spamming all kind of stuff and moderators being their nigger. If anything, make it "illegal" but dont punish (just delete) the content which only slightly breaks the rules (or the 1st time offenders - msg deleted/modded + warning).

i wouldnt encourage deleting content not prohibited by rules

I liked the previous poll idea to get a feedback from the community.
So, let's try to do it for both server & forum.

Why not to provide the Rules based on real democracy ideas? According to this poll, maybe even in realtime? Of course if our admins will not protest that. At list i see my possible moderation job being based on this poll.
There was an idea about Rules unification between server and forum, i consider that idea makes sence.

I also offer more precise definitions from previous poll.
You can also revote as soon as you change your opinion.
I don't include some obvious technical options, like server attacking or forum spambots as unambiguously harmful for the software and the community.
So, previous rules have been provided by me personally, with no accept from the community and other admins. I tried that for several months, but people didn't accept that. That's why i have to unstick the previous rules topic and officially announce it's not working anymore. It's just a technical thing, to keep things in actual state.

Let's set this topic in place of the previous "hitlerism" rules.

About our current moderation staff:
- I consider the main moderator is Blid.
When russians joined the community, the only leader was Burnt. So, I (and Ldir as i know) always followed him. Now Burnt is done, so, i follow Blid as his direct inheritor.
- tk[as] is another moderator. I follow him also.

- Lightbringer- is officially done with any kind of his moderation job.
- I stopped my moderation job and follow current moderators with it's technical side.
I can make some obvious job, if i think something goes wrong, like agressive spambot on the forum, only if i'm sure our moderators will not protest.
I can help to find ip range list of the person if they want to ban him.
I can gather some info about something i assume important and inform moderators.
I will not do something unaccepted by moderators.

I'll stick this topic as Server Rules until anyone release anything better.

blid is not capable of doing his moderation job with the butthurt attitude and 4-word-per-post limit, tk[as] is an anarchist without wider perspective (he approaches every moderation case with "sit on daddys lap and we talk this through" attitude), lightmuslim was pretty OK except for his random muslim rage, i think he was the most useful of these 3.

Sure! At least any offers are welcomed.
Unfortunately each single guy has different opinion about the Rules, so we have to provide some kind of unification. I consider such poll is good idea.

i think he was the most useful of these 3.
So, firstly the community make him gone, and now - to be sad that he did?

if mousetopher keeps the forum moderated(?), then we only need a STOP USING RACIST SLURS PLEASE for server business, for which blid works i suppose, as long as its a simple 'no ss -> warn -> punishment' case. Anywayyyyy as long as you're gonna be very active (like you are now), all my personal stuff and concerns will be PMed to you

So this poll serves as the official rules for server & forum then, and whatever the votes reflect are law at any given point in time? That seems fair, though it does place a burden on the user to always know what's allowed/disallowed when it can easily change without warning as more people vote and/or existing votes are modified.

I've been moderating nothing on the forum since the status of any official rules seemed unclear, but I can do -- people just need to use the reporting system, then myself & other mods can act based on the rules. (This has happened a few times already but no one knew what to do so reports were ignored or cupcaked.) Maybe a standarized warning system like this? http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=878 Up to muting only, ban feature excluded. Right now it looks like porn & religious/racial/sexual hate are the only things people want controlled.
