Suggestion for the upcoming combat 45 installer:

Take all improvements from 44 and apply them to 43 and turn it into 45 (2.0.2.0). This way we're going to have all the tools working again and we can use the old AH.

CD will not work with GOG war2 as they changed install.exe archive to install.mpq for some strange reasons...
That causes big problems with compatibility between 2020 and gog2021 also

Agree. Well, i think i'll add gog2021 as an option (to make it possible to state it's gog compatible as a way to attract newbies).
But gog2021 should never be used for ordinary players...

yeah the GOG ship has sailed... or sunk .. however you want to look at it.

GOG was never shit... BUT every now and again some random nostelgic person will get WC2 from them, then log in and find the server empty. There really should be a bot there directing people to our community even if it's only a few noobs a year I think its well worth it.

Yes. When I first suggested the AH back on the old occult forum, that was always the plan. You have to make it mandatory. I think the problem is that iL's current AH monitors WC2 from a seperate process, while the WC2 exe itself remains identical and indistinguishable from the original version, so the pvpgn server can't tell the difference.

I have spoken at length with iL about future strategies for a more comprehensive AH, and am happy to assist with implimenting it.

The GOG version doesn't need the CD to work, it has the no-cd patch already applied to it. The original BNE version searched the file "install.exe" to locate the CD path.

So what are we talking about here? The gog version won't play the music from the CD?... apart from the security check to stop pirates (and whatever verification data it extracted from install.exe) im pretty sure the only thing the CD did was play the music... and I think there is also an option to leave the campaign videos on the CD also to save 90's HDD space hehe.
