also I know icons are percieved as an useless gimmick by some (me included), but seeing all the discussions and plans here, maybe a lot of people actually care about them. And in the end the user perception is all that matters. If it's a thing which may result in them playing instead of leaving, or participating in a tournament, it's more than just a 24x16 pixel shitty-ass picture

i really think everyone should deserve a custom icon

with a few restrictions.

- only 1 icon, period, no multiple icons on multiple akas, or the same icon on multiple akas.
just ONE icon on ONE aka.

- user must be either 2 years old playing ru or reach a certain amount of wins, (500? 1000?)
(aka not necesarily be installed on the aka with the wins)

- icon must be designed and submitted by user

- icon transfer aka to another aka only once a year. (to avoid further hassle to icon admin)

- alloewd icon change maybe every 6months?

- caught hackers = no more icons until further notice.

I had an idea to make something like online service to upload your personal icon attached to your profile. You post that 28x14 picture or w/e, the system adds it to icons.bni and updates your personal tag.
Should work automatically.
Of course personal icons should be given temporary and for some prominent services.

That is just an idea for very far-far future.

sigh, thats a lot of work for what will end up being a stupid feature. The purpose of tournament icons is to encourage players in participation, the purpose of "XXXX wins" icons is to encourage players to play more... but this? eh.
