they did something,i was messing with the shareware sc1 and your ddraw works now..used to not let you connect.

i wonder if they are doing that patch and just scraping the new sc1 hd idea.

They are not scrapping sc:remastered, it will come out, and players of the free brood war and remastered can play matches with each other.

Strategy & Replays / Re: Looking for a detailed GoW strategy guide/article
« on: February 06, 2017, 08:36:04 PM »
Here's a generic build order for a rush.

Peon 1: Town Hall
Peon 1: Farm
Peon 1: Barracks
Peon 2: Farm (Peon 2 stays on continuous farm production)
Peon 3: Blacksmith
Peon 4: Barracks
Peon 5 and on wards start mining gold, and after each barracks and your blacksmith finish send those peons to gold as well.

You will not be mining enough gold to pump 2 grunts and a peon every macro cycle so you need to choose based on what's happening in the game what you need more. A lot of people are scared to stop peon production momentarily due to falling behind economically but if you are able to deal damage with your units you can make up for the slight economic setback tenfold. If you have an enemy at the spot next to you just halt peon production entirely and stop making farms when you have 17 food (4 farms). Pump grunts out and when you get 4 start heading to the enemy base and don't forget to rally the next 2 to your group of 4 and drop another farm and don't forget level 3 (crucial). Control grouping your armies helps a lot in this regard. Now let's say for instance you don't have a neighbor and your ally doesn't need immediate help. If that's the case you want to rush out 3 grunts to scout together, but not giving up peon/farm production whatsoever. This will give you an economic lead and the ability to utilize both of your barracks at the same time to produce grunts in macro cycles. You want to be vigilant in your scouting, produce grunts out of 1 of the barracks, and begin to form a choke or funnel at the entrance to your base until you are able to sustain both barracks. Once you get to around 21 food you should be at that point. At some point you're going to want to start chopping lumber. Generally when you reach 950 wood you will want to send a peon or two to start chopping to keep up with continuous farms and levels. You will have to assess the game and decide if you can deal damage with early units, and if continuing upgrading past level 3 is worth it. If you decide it's not, then you begin dropping your lumber mill and pulling more peons to chop lumber and begin the transition to teching up to tier 2. It is very important if you are halting grunt production in order to tech to keep a scout close to your opponents base to keep an eye on what he is up too. The sooner you find out, the sooner you can start reacting and countering it. Now my recommendation for a newer player is to focus entirely on the early game because that phase is much easier to compete in then later on. Focus on making a solid grunt army with at least level 4, and work on trying to use them to deal damage and delay your enemies. Once you master the rush you will be able to have a lot of fun in big team games!

ok. thanks will practice this build! many thanks! really appreciate it!

Strategy & Replays / Looking for a detailed GoW strategy guide/article
« on: January 10, 2017, 02:02:57 AM »
Hi,

Seeing that Garden of War (classic version )being the most played War2 map of all time, I am quite surprised their isn't a comprehensive written article about it online. Do you guys have any recommended   old articles back in the day that discusses it in high detail? GoW is played so much, its almost like  Dota, a game with only one map. It feels like that in that sense.

I know there are different videos about GoW however something written is better for me. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks! :-D

I'm Ishmokin and was a fan of the original war2 back in the day. We played very scrubby and only on a casual level.

I create games in the server named noob Gow or scrub Gow.  Been getting some awesome replays of getting my ass handed to me by the vets! :D

I used BNET Insight tool to record the games for the first time and its been great! This will be the key to my improvement and gradually departure from scrubdom! haha!

First time I witnessed a build where he sealed 11 oclock by farms, then built a lumber mill and a watch tower at the entrance. Then built another Hall, and was just producing nothing but peons. then he teched up to get blood lust then proceeded to kill me.

Is that what's called a dual hall build? I always assumed a dual hall was a fast expand. Guess not. hehe.

Anyways, you can find m as Ishmoks or Ishmokin on Steam.  I live in South East Asia, Hong Kong Time.

Hope to get some games with you all! cheers!  ^-^

For learning purposes just play classic GOW, EF and nothing else. If you want to have fun play other built-in maps, but they won't really give you any insight into essential mechanics that can't already be found on classic GOW. You will still find yourself on occasion playing maps that have a certain uniqueness to them like water maps, nwtr, and ones that have more gold scarcity than you will be used to on GOW, but once you understand GOW for the most part, you will be able to pick up those maps with just a few easy adjustments.

GOW BNE is a relatively similar map to classic GOW, and the way it is played has a lot of similarities as well as long as you don't change the game speed. Hardly anyone plays it though, so you might as well be practicing on the map that people do play so you can concentrate completely on learning the tactics and maneuvers that are exclusive to classic GOW.

Yamon also gave you a great piece of advice - focus on playing people who are better than you. If you don't make this a conscious effort, you will probably find yourself unknowningly resorting to almost only playing people you can contend with and it will slow your learning process.

Sure will do. Will practice on classic GOW and will be actively seeking out better players (in this case anyone in War2 server haha). Yup losing doesn't bother me, i see it as learning opportunities.  It's very similar to Fighting games, Dont be afraid of losing to better players. In the process I get better.

I got my ass handed to me constantly the other day, took a beating, but in the process I experience for the first time someone building a Rax in front of my gold mine and me didnt know who to handle it. I guess the key is to not let that Peon inside the base.

Looking forward to playing in the war2 server alot. Many thanks to you all for the advice!
 Cheers!:)

You can ask around on war2, and everyone well tell you i am the most experienced mentor with unmatched results. My former students are:
Medivh: http://ladder.war2.ru/index.php
Lone: http://ladder.war2.ru/player.php/php?player=lone

and this was my mentor for half a decade, swift:
http://ladder.war2.ru/player.php/php?player=swift

lone and medivh were both really new when i found them, but i could see very large potential in them. I will able to tell you if you have what it takes or not as well.

I would love to be mentored by you however that might be asking too much as I am just an enthusiast and not having any pro gaming ambitions.

I just need a tutor to get my skill level up to speed somewhat for serious play but not necessarily for tournament level success.

That said I very much open to learn from you and the rest of the community. I really appreciate the help and inputs. Thank you. :)

You'd better have time to play 24/7, well at least if u wanna play in the tournaments. There are players that have played this game for over 20 years or so. I've stopped trying to be the best because I don`t have the time and now I just play for fun when I can.

I don't plan to join the tourneys, but I plan to be a spectator and want to learn how to play in those maps. :) Or just in-house tourneys with my brother and his friends :)

I like 1v1 and was late in getting "serious" in RTS genre. I started taking it seriously when sc2 came out.  I played war 2 back in the late 90's but was ignorant of any competitive scene and strategies. When SC 1 came out my friends and i shifted to it and forgot about war 2.

Glad to be back and my brother and I were having a blast doing 1v1 on GOW BNE. He recruiting his friends to get back playing as well :)
