Hostile buildings is far better than allied until the ability to choose is implemented. 
No, it is not. You still can manually attack neutrals, but can't do NOT attack enemies.

BTW neutral is much closer to original gameplay "watcher's last farm".

So is better for watchers not go /obs too early, and that's why self-proclaimed obs is bad also.

"Hostile buildings" is not a solution,
On the contrary, it is creating a more serious problem:

Imagine that you play NWTR 2 vs 2,
you were killed
you going /obs...
But your buildings stay as "enemy" and continue to distract the enemy catapults, that clearly helps your ally win... BG.


The player should have the ability to set or remove alliances for "killed /obs", but Edo is too lazy for now to fix it. Waiting... lol.

Anyway need three types of game, related to visible area:

1. Classic - restricted to 196 squares (14x14).

2. Modern - upper limit ~384 squares. Keep sense as cybersport, damnit.

 ...19x18 for 4x3,
 ...21x18, etc

3. Freescale - no any limits. Mostly for wargus newbies, single player, or watchers (before game start).

B. about all new features as a whole:
Anyone can play with any Warcraft II BNE version, including Combats, but with some clarifications.

There are two main updated version of original exe:
2.0.2.0
 - compatible with all new features
/most war2combats with default exe options
/classic cd installation patched to 2.0.2.0

2.0.2.1
- incompatible with most new features and got msg in lobby kinda 'unsafe'
/gog
/war2combat with install option 2.0.2.1 for gog compatility
/classic cd installation patched to 2.0.2.1

I personally do not like it, but I treat it neutrally, because it is made by a separate mode: No one forces you to play this mode.

Yes.

can the neutral player be an enemy instead of ally?
No.
Your buildings will continue to distract the enemy and help the ally this way.
(yes other situations are possible, but not very often / not so critical)

P.S.:
In any case "self-proclaimed obs" w/o confirmation of at least one enemy(or host) - is a raw solution.
P.P.S:
BTW host still needs some more rights in his game.
