Have no access to PC for a few days, so cannot check by myself.
1. It shouldn't be green in dosbox. Looks like some troubles in font data.
2. Do you have just the same DATA.WAR for WinWar without additional language configs?

A couple of notes:
- You need to have WinWar.Core.dll near this editor
- You can open font from DATA.WAR and convert it into image. Than you can edit the image in any editor and convert it into binary font file (*.fnt)
- White and black colors are visible colors of letters. Red color - this is letter border. It can be wider than visible character. And orange color just background.
- The top part of image will be transparent. This means that Warcraft ignores all these symbols.
- Original version of Warcraft has 128 characters limit. But you can make an image bigger, up to 256 characters.
- Font file can be imported back to DATA.WAR by other utilities (WarDraft or others). 213 is big font. 214 - is small. Do not forget that resource should be archived.
- Some utilities (including WarDraft as I remember) cannot insert resource bigger than original. So, you need to find another utility or find DATA.WAR with 256 symbols.
- For WinWar, you can use language *.ini file, without DATA.WAR updating in "custom" section (215 - big font, 216 - small). Like this:

- For WinWar you can put codepage in *.ini file, "language" section. Like this:

No. But you can use any 8 bit Encoding (tested with CP866 and Windows 1251). Also Font editor can help you:

Also you can use this address as a server for multiplayer game ("zelya.war2.ru").

Android version will download game resources to your "Downloads" folder. But it can take a lot of time (up to a few minutes) due to poor server and not optimized code.
Please do not use node 99 in game DosBox vs WinWar. Node 99 is a test version for further connection improvements and original version doesn't support it.

Hello everyone. Honestly, I'm tired of all this fierce nonsense.
1) Mistral and I streamed the Alaunter campaign.
2) It is not clear why our video is still "limited", although more than six months have already passed.
3) I was visiting my friend on a visit, and therefore the decision to stream Alaunter was sudden. Therefore, we asked for a war2combat account to stream (you may not care, but for the Russian part of the community it was important, this can be traced by the comments left during the stream). I believe everyone knows that in order to be able to stream from your channel, you need to wait 3 days. We didn’t have such time.
4) You may not agree, but the Russian community is part of the warcraft 2 family. I really don't understand the connection with this ... what's the problem? Guys, let's leave this whole circus.

If you need an apology, or something else like that. You can consider this message an official apology to the owners of the war2combat channel.

Ldir have no autory here, he have been afk of this server for the last 15 years, nobody cares about what that guy say, even iL have no autority on it, those tags belong to the communauty, who ever beat swift is the new legend, thats how it suppose to work, period.
This is the biggest problem of the current war2 community, that there are some people who do not respect others, who made this community. Ldir, il from technical side, swift from game attraction perspective. I have some respect even for you with your greatest butthurt. Because I remember Eq, who made great tournaments, so bring his value into war2 community. And as long as we talk "he is AFK for years and has no authority" our community will degrade.
Who do you thing "has authority " to present community now and give "legend" tags?

Swift has got the last master tag from this server creator Ldir. So when everybody got later their personal "master"/"super master"/"mega ultra master" tags, Swift got the new unique one. And this is fair.

For closed communities ELO works bad. It shows something reasonable only for the top of the players list.
In big, popular games you have a huge number of new players, who lose starting games. They give some points to better players.

In our case we have no this "injection". And most of games are played inside small group of people. Good players takes more and more points from medium players. And medium players has no possibility to restore rating.

So each new player has noticeable "handicap". But if they won't leave war2, they will play more and more games and give their points to better players. As a result you have not bad players at the bottom of the list, but players who has a lot of games. Only small number of strong and active players, who get most of points from all the community has rating which makes sense.

If you want to use the same localization for Android, you need to open *.ini file and change all the DOS backslashes in path '\' to Android slashes '/'.

Saves and multiplayer should be compatible with original version. Replays work only for multiplayer and only in test mode. A huge number of bugs is expected (not sure).

There should be 3 files. Just put them into Warcraft 1 folder. Or you can run WinWar.exe anywhere you want and then select Warcraft folder.

Current version is 0.4.15. You need to use full CD installation(~70 Mb) of Warcraft 1, version 1.22. You can get it here:

As I remember, GOG version should work too.

A couple of words about multiplayer testing:
The original game has no any synchronization checking. So in the case of minor logic bugs you can play different games with you opponent. This testing version has one feature. When any peon has born, both of players will get a message about it with direction number. The directions are next:
7-0-1
6-X-2
5-4-3
If you see that your (or opponent's) peon has another direction, this means that you have serious mismatches in game states and you can stop your game.

Another useful feature is replays. You can turn them on in Options.

To play vs DosBox you need start IPX server in DosBox and put IP address or host name in WinWar.
If you want to play with 2 WinWar, you need to use any additional IPX Server. It can be empty DosBox.
You can join server OLD-GAMES.RU but when you use remote server the game will be too slow. Warcraft 1 send only 1 action during each network cycle step. And it cannot connect directly to opponent's client. So in the case of remote server all your commands will go throw doubled route: you->server->opponent.

Theoretically game is fully playable. But it's not tested and a millions bug can be found.
It should be fully compatible with original (saves, multiplayer)

How about supporting remastered graphics? it needs the screen resolution 320x200 to 640 x 480(400?)

This is not a remastered graphics. This is just upscale with ugly filter. I think it would be better to add possibility to use filters instead of separate graphic pack for each of them.

But I think about graphic extensions. Case one is a resources pack, with higher resolution. But as far we have no graphic for it (and I think will not have for a long time) I postponed this case.
Case to is making "Warcraft lib" which can be added to modern engine, for example, Unity. In this case all the game will be calculated in this lib, but all the input/output will be handled by Unity. You can make any graphic you want, but you need to grab some Objects data from lib and take some parameters (like position, animation frame, timings, hit bars) into accound. theoretically you can have 3D game (like War 3) which can be played with original War 1 under DosBox.

In any case all these extensions can be planned only for far future.

The nearest plan is next:
1. Find testers to finalize bugfixind. Failed.
2. Finalize some unfinished items. Almost done (Left: score calculation, outtro movie, playing without sound, some small TODOs).
3. Add some features for Android version to make control more suitable. Under construction.
4. Wait for Russian and Ukrainian localization. In progress.
5. May be someone will test WinWar campaign with localization. Waiting for 3.
6. Test AI
7. Publish version 0.5.
=========FUTURE==============
8. Improve multiplayer mode (to have higher speed) for WinWar only.
9. (Optional) Add launcher for DosBox  to support possible new multiplayer mode
10. Add observer mode.
11. (Optional) Allow to use Mac version resources (most of sprites in this version are quite bad, only movies can be fine)
12. Add War2 control style for single player mode.
13. Make a map editor and custom map support.
14. Make some utilities to work with game resources (now only font editor is working)

15. Add PVPGN support
16. Add graphic enhancements
17. Add new AI, maybe support plugins for AI.
18. Support more than 2 players.

Imagine one second that Blizzard did what gog did directly, re-releasing warcraft2 with nothing changed just making sure it runs on modern computers and making people that already bought the game buy it again for it to be fixed.

Yes, this is OK. Except one item "buy it again". If you have your historical copy, I think you can play it with DosBox, new ddraw, on old PC whatever you have. From another side, I had no possibility to have a legal version of Warcraft 2 at all. It was crazy situation in my county in 90th and Warcraft 2 was available only like this:



When I wanted to organize an offline tournament it was a trouble that I have no any legal version of the game. The only workaround was CD from e-bay, which cost very much. Now this is not a problem. And I have bought both of GOG versions immediately, to pay Blizzard for my happy hours I had 20 years ago and have now.

And new players had no possibility to get a legal version if they want. Now they have. You can play as it was before GOG release.

Now if yes then what stops them and any company from making you pay your games all over again the next time DirectX or your OS is updated?
I don't pay Blizzard for "updating" my Warcraft 2. I pay only for old game as a whole product.
OK, lets talks about OS. I have found a rare, old but very useful specific hardware. It run under Windows 3.1. I cannot buy Windows 3.1. because it "has no updates" and it is "abandoned". So I cannot use my specific hardware in a legal way. I want to pay money but I cannot. Is it OK?

By the way I had a similar situation ~10 years ago and MS send a response that I'm free to buy any modern OS, but do not install it. Then I can install old OS I need in any way I want, but without using illegal sources (like forbidden torrents or pirate's disks) . And this installation will work for me.

PS In any case I'm happy that anybody who want to BUY old software has possibility to do this.

PPS And one more related to my first post in this topic. I just wanted to point that there is no term "abandonware" for market. We can talk a lot if this game is old or not, if we need it in shop or for free, and so on. But this is just abstract discussion. Just for fun. And it does not make sense for real life now. But any discussion is good, because it can change something in future.
