Server.War2.ru / Lost Temple [new map] Classic from WC3 and SC

ELO!

Ok, here is the third map in my map series.

This time a 2s/3s/4s map.
The classic Lost Temple, inspired mostly by the Warcraft 3 version. It's also one of the most classic maps from Star Craft.


This map has the same feature as the Twisted Meadows map i recently made; you can build on light dirt.

8 Spawns. 60k gold each (might change in after testing).
4 Expansion mines.



This will probably take a while to beta test. I am also still beta testing the Terenas Stand map. I named the map with a "+" sign, but will rename it when the final version is released.

Please help out by host and playing the maps :) Thanks!
I'm doing this map series, because i believe war2 community would benefit a lot from more balanced and fun maps...

Server.War2.ru / Terenas Stand 1s [new map] Port from Warcraft 3

ELO!

I'm continuing my mission to develop better and more balanced maps for Warcraft 2.
Terenas Stand is just like Twisted Meadows a very popular map in Warcraft 3. I just made the first beta version of the map.

Terenas Stand is a 1s map with two expansions per player. I will appreciate people playing it so i can continue develop it to a great and balanced map :)

There is two versions of it for now, one where host is observer and slot 2 and 5 is playing. And one version with slot 1(host) and 5 is playing. All other slots can observe but not play. Of course you need to play with fixed order, since this is a 1s map that won't affect game play.

I haven't had the time to host the Twisted Meadows tourney. I hope I will in the future, for now i will develop some more maps, maybe we can host a Warcraft 3 maps tourney?

Server.War2.ru / Twisted Meadows 2.0 Preview video and Tournament!

ELO friends!

New Twisted Meadows map version is coming out. I'm still doing some beta testing to make sure there are no bugs.
I was thinking of having a tournament this weekend but since we need to give the new version some time I will aim for a tournament on the 17 of Sep.
Any help with hosting the tournament is appreciated. So far Noise said he will help me, maybe Tora too?

What would be the best format? 1v1 or 2v2?

I'm doing this because i think it will be a lot of fun for all players, everyone will be a newb on this map ;D

We need all players to come sign up and play!  8)

I made a preview of the new maps main features, to help players pick it up faster.

I'm attaching the 2.0 beta version to this post and will update with final version when maps tested more. There will also be an observer version for 2v2 where slot 1,2,5,6 are for the playing players, fixed order is a must (which will not ruin game play because it's 2s map).

ELO folks!

I think war2 would benefit a lot by expanding its map pool with some decent maps. Other rts games have faar more and better balanced maps.

That's why I made "Twisted Meadows". The benefit with a more balanced map is that it is easier for new players to learn and you get more exciting close games.

I'm happy and grateful that the map has been well received by the community and everyone playing it.

I hope it can be a start of a development to get a better map pool, there is still a lot of work to be done.

It would be really fun to get some support for this map making effort. For example I would love to see a tournament running this map. I am very new to "BNE" style of gameplay, but am trying to learn the basics to be able to balance maps like this better, a tournament would help a lot.

If I get support I'm planing to do more maps like this, probably just like Twisted Meadows inspired by other big RTS maps. Twisted Meadows is a four player map, next one would be 6 or 8 players.

Xurnt, Tora etc, what you think? I know you all care for the future of the game!

Ch0p claimed that Krida is hacking, seeing him build hack. I wouldn't ban because i didn't know what to believe, but after starting game, Ch0p paused and asked for SS. Krida/Bigfeet refused, just doding for 4 minutes or more, everyone asking him to send ss. We even did random vision on him, he didn't tell who. And in the end of game when he was about to lose last buildings he dropp hacked whole game so it crashed. I know he has many akas, and i took a screenshot of the ping. AH said it was on, but like Szwagier said, it doesn't always work.

I got inspired to make a video to show some Chop Farms chopping patterns you can learn to chop two trees at once vertically and horizontally. Some people call it "magic trees", I reefer to it as the chop-bug.  The explanation on http://occult.war2.ru/strategy/mechanics/magictrees.php is very good but more of a technical explanation. So I decided to show some good patterns you can learn to chop faster, mostly good to know on chop maps and various custom maps. Maybe someone already made a video like this before?


Please reply and tell us if you learned anything new! :)
I will do some more guiding videos in the future...

Once when the server went down some people got messed up stats (me included). Just curious what happened and will the stats return? :D

I made som changes to the default Chop Farms map.

- There is walls around every players farms (before it didn't fit)
- Even if you destroy walls you can't pass, "invisible walls". You can get around by chopping one wood though. This can't be removed because it would affect regular game play to much.
- More lumber in bank from start.
- Renamed the nap to [year] and a "+" for every new major version. To avoid map dis conflicts.
- In the latest update i moved position of four mines. Mine at 12 and 1 are moved closer to middle and slightly to the left. Mines at 6 and 7 are moved in the same way, but to slightly to the right.

The main reason for moving the mines is to make it possible to mine in all positions with "power mining", with no awkward spaces in you'r build placements. I think now it is also more balanced in how much time it takes to chop and build a power mine hall between all spawns. One down side I found is that 12 and 6 gets little bit tight if you build hall facing the wrong way. But i think it is just because you're not used to the new layout. When people get to play it they will find ways to place the buildings in good positions.

I would like to make a complete mirrored chop farms version, where every spawn only gets one mine and the mine is in the corner. After working with the map for a while I start to question the layout more and more of the default chop map. I don't know if that big of a change would be bad for the gameplay, but I'm having a hard time to understand why it wouldn't be a good thing. I will make the completely new map layout so players can compare and say what they think is good and not.

I will make a new reply to this post with screenshots to show the different layouts. Anyone knows a good program to save good screenshots of maps? Not just the thumbnail of the map viewer...

Be aware that some features will stop working if you open the map and saves it in the regular map editor.

Cartography & Custom Maps / Chop Farms [2017]

Ok, i made a new Chop Farms version. With walls surrounding every players farms. I also made it not possible to cross the walls even after they destroyed. This is to prevent easy run around in 1s, 2s, 3s games... I also increased wood amount from start, since it's so annoying running out of wood in a long game.

Hope you guys like it :) I hope it works as I thought...

Today my war2observe.exe was gone, and i discovered that microsoft security essentials had deleted it, saying it's a trojan.

ELO FOLKS :)

A while a go, I made an effort trying to make a new Chop Farms map with observer feature :) The idea is that everyone that wants to observer hops into the eye of killrog. Everyone who wants to play just let the ogre hop into the eye of killrog and keeps peon. I had some success making the map, but got stuck since i could only get it to work on player red...

Just watch the video and you will understand... It looks kinda fun, take a look :D

Cartography & Custom Maps / New map Twisted Meadows, port from Warcraft 3

UPDATE MAJOR CHANGES 2018-04-30! Map version (3.0).


Changes:
- Mine in middle got some more walls.
- Light dirt is replaced by dark grass, to not confuse player that can't understand you can't build on it :)
- Gold amount small adjustments.
- Minor tree fixes.
- Changed names to my version control naming system with (+) instead of "3.0".

- Attaching two observer versions to this post too.
Twisted Meadows+ hobs = Host is observer. Slot 2, 3 ,4 ,5 is playing rest observers. Fixed order is needed.
Twisted Meadows+ obs = Slot 1, 2, 3, 4 is playing (host is playing). Rest is observer spots. Fixed order is needed.

Continued balancing fixes might be needed, but more testing needs to be done first.

Ok, I've started to play and watch more maps than Chop Farms recently. What I found out is that Warcraft 2 doesn't have many (any) really good balanced maps. Of course there is still fun maps in Warcraft 2, and probably many i don't know about. But if you compare to other RTS games, like Starcraft and Warcraft 3, the maps are more balanced and built very different compared to Warcraft 2.

After some thinking, I finally decided to try make a port of Twisted Meadows from Warcraft 3, it's one of the most popular maps in the game. My first goal was to get the proportions right, second i've been trying to change small stuff to make it work better in War2. My goal is of course to make a map with long, exciting and tactical matches.

So why did I choose to make a port from Warcraft 3? Other big competitive games often have maps going from one version to the other. This map is played thousands of times, probably way more than GOW every been played. It's known by a large group of people (even not playing Warcraft 2), makes it easier for new players to the community and also veteran players.

After some testing it looks really promising. I hope people will help me test it by play it a lot. If there is interest from the community i would love to work on the map much more. If it gets enough testing i will probably change a lot of things on the map.

The map has a lot of features, some special once to ;D

- There is four spawns so maximum 1s and 2s games.
- Each spawn towards each corner.
- Two expansions per player.
- One expansion near and one more secret.
- Similar amount of Gold in mines as GOW.
- Two chokes to each spawn.
- Wall off (with buildings) is possible but not necessary.
- Many ways to wall off and protect bases.
- 2nd expansion can wall off with two buildings.
- Runestone protecting natural and 2nd expansion.
- You can build on light dirt (to make it more look like the original map)
- Every spawn has island (with bridge) behind natural.
- Units won't get stuck moving over major part of map
- 3rd expansion can't be walled off
- All spawns is same in space, features and balance. They look little bit different though.

I don't have time to explain the map more in detail atm. But might put up some more images explaining some parts of the map that is not obvious. For example you can build buildings all the way next to the rocks at the 2nd expansions. You can't walk past the runestones.....
