Title: Another newbie thread
Post by: stevebrock on April 05, 2015, 04:53:49 PM
Where's the sticky for beginners?

Build orders

hot key assignments (using 0 for town hall because it's above "P" for peon/peasant)

unit control (do players just click across the map or send their units somewhere click by click?)

general strategies (how much sight does a tower have, nate formation) etc.

Question 1: How old are you.
Question 2: Did you have any experience in rts game.
Question 3: Why do you play this game and what your goal in it.

Thank you.

Cool, i like when peoples are little bit more older then 15 year old, it's look like a better deal and a save of my times.

What games did you have play? And do you know the basic like hotkeys?

Nice if you miss some of them you can actually know them easily by in game, every units or building are write in game, if you look closely you will see there always a letter in bright yellow colors wich mean it's the hotkey your lookin for.

Also, my best advice for you are this one's.

The best way to improved in this game is actually by this way.

Learn every hotkeys soon as possible.

Get yourself a good setting to play this game, it mean a good desktop, a good chair, a good mouse, a good keyboard, be confortable when you play, If your not confortable from start your gonna learn everything badly.

Take more times to watch ONLY pro players instead of losing your times with game who mean nothing.

Actually OLD GOW EF is the map you need to learn, dont waste your time on other map for now and dont waste your time with peoples who will play bad and learn you bad.

Try to know who are the best players, most of them have special icons in game like profi, sware, master, but it dont really mean they are all good.

If you join a game they will ban you most of time... Don try to lie or dont try to be invisible, just tell your new and you want to learn.

Keep asking your question in this thread, also if you see me in game dont be scare to talk at me.

Idk what the differecnes are between most classic, bne, and aie. i saw the old gow and it's really stupid how it is set up and i dont want to have to look throw all the maps just to find a decent one.

what do you means dont be invisible? is there a way to watch games?

Actually classic are the map from the original warcraft II 1995, bt net are the same as 1995 but a little bit modified.

The difference between them is about starting position, most of the classic map are harder to play, Harder to close your base on classic map or harder to defend against alot of different kind of attack compare to bt net one's wich they modify exactly to be easier to closed and defend.

so what are the differences between bne, aie, classic, download, others, etc

and why does pudbrowse have an open and a browse option?

Classic or the original ladder map from 1995, bne are the modify version of classic ladder map from 1995, aie is some scenario map you can play for fun, download are the map your gonna automaticly download everytime you join a game with a map you dint already have, others is a free section if you like to create map yourself.

Actually peoples start with easy customer map like ( Paintball, Chop, Kotr, or BGH )

Paintball is a little bit retard from my point of view but... Kinda like a free units map where you one shot one kill, not really fun but anyway.

Chop is a good way to understand how peons are important into this game, by learning chop your gonna learn the basic for your future in pro map.

BGH is the same as any rts game, BIG GAME Hunter, where everything is large and free, a good way to learn your building and hotkeys but a bad way to prepare yourself for expensive pro map.

KOTR is almost the same as bgh in smaller version.

My advice for you is to play Chop or join GOW game for newbs, not for pro.

I would say archer friends is a good map for beginners. You only need to make 1 unit, archers (and peons duh) and it has all the aspects of the game.

Howcome I don't see to many games on the join games list? is there not enough players? cause i never saw archer friends before.

Does this site 403 sometimes cause it says 403 forbidden.

all these are dumb suggestions

if you wanna get good, stay away from all custom maps. theres very few people that started playing chop and are actually good at war2.

i repeat, if you wanna get good.

you wont get the hang of it if you start with 560000 gold... or maps where u cant build magic, ogres etcc. (archers)
let alone maps where your units have 1hp (paintball, lol)

and no, when i started playing this game i never played custom maps. thats a dumb thing to say.

The only remaining details left are to add some trees to the islands for looks; dress up the ground with some dark patches and random fill; assign default resources of a peon, a town hall, and a farm; and move some of the oil patches which are too close or far from the shore. With these final details, the map is complete and ready for play testing.

What is wrong with oi patches being too close to the shore?

Archers is a good suggestion, just try to build like your partner & don't do anything retarded like making footmen or blacksmith. That one is hosted fairly often, look for the player Fat~Budz.

Arena is nice too, you can play multiplayer but can't get dted at start, it has all units & most aspects of standard gameplay, but scaled down & simplified. Ditto with Mini Bgh, or any minified map really. Could even try mini gow. Attached a few maps.

And here's another good source for basic tips: http://forum.war2.ru/index.php/topic,243.0.html (http://forum.war2.ru/index.php/topic,243.0.html)

He's not worried about getting good atm, he's worried about trying out the game and having some fun.

Welcome to the server.  I think another good map to start off with would be Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide.  I play every now and then and you're more than welcome to join any game I host.

Is there anyway to watch the computer play itself?

Here's a pud I made called tic tac toe. It was supposed to be a checkers theme then ended up being rock paper scissors then I went with tic tac toe because of the map layout. Alleria beats dragon, dragon beats turayon, turaylon beats alleria.(http://s2.postimg.org/cvuomxikp/Tic_Tac_Toe.jpg)

I don't really think so.  Only thing I can think of is setting one set of units to "Rescue (active)" but I think that just makes them mine gold and build, not attack other computers...
