I am looking to purchase a new laptop that I will use exclusively for work. I don't need anything fancy, just something that browses quick online and loads, updates, saves, closes files/programs quickly.
I want to buy something for as cheap as possible while still meeting the above need. I was thinking I could just buy something and load it up with ram, but I am not so sure this would actually make it faster - but instead I think it would just maintain its current speed for longer as I go through updates throughout the months that require more and more of the computer? IDK. Help!

Well I would suggest possibly upgrading your pc...
If you have to PM me you're budget range.

Try buying a clue.

Any new computer is gonna be able to browse the net and open programs.
Just get a cheapass Dell Inspiron if that's all you need. http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-14-3452-laptop/pd?oc=dncwf002s&model_id=inspiron-14-3452-laptop (http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-14-3452-laptop/pd?oc=dncwf002s&model_id=inspiron-14-3452-laptop)

maybe you're a dumbass. clear out malware.

Did that, also beat you without using a keyboard.
-
I heard you smashed your laptop after getting owned?? =O
If you want some speed, SSD makes a huge difference... Refurbished macbook air would do the job.
-
buy a laptop from walmart and put in a vid card, 1 stick of ram, and boom.

Ebay is probably ur best bet honestly. You can get great deals on all differnt types of labtops no matter ur budget.

that's what i use to do just about everything... war2, skype, web browsing... cheap and effective for basic shit. you can always upgrade the RAM if you need to

- Get a laptop with a SSD instead of a mechanical HDD. MILES FASTER and low power consumption.
- Get at least a core i3 with integrated graphics. Saves more on power (less heat, more battery life, less fan noise). i7 is way overkill. I5 if you 'want' it.

Lightbro is right, replacing a standard hard drive with SSD (solid state drive) will give you the most bang for your buck -- it'll make a huge difference in speed for all these things even in a low-end laptop. A 250GB is $90 on Amazon, or $45 for a 120GB if you don't need a lot of storage. Completely worth it & much better results than a RAM upgrade.
